Amazing performance by all. This has to be the most magical show I have been to. My daughter of 4 years adored it, upon leaving she asked can we see it again? This really is a christmas treat for all the family. I do have to say Anita Dobson's performance was outstanding as the Ice Queen. Well done to you all at Mayflower Theatre.

What a fabulous show - the sets and costumes were amazing and as another poster has commented, Roy Barraclough simply IS Santa. A treat for people of all ages!

Really really good! Scenery? Amazing. Actors? Great voices, nice costumes, good acting. Anita Dobson as ice queen? Outstanding!
The whole cast made the show really good, the story line was well portrayed by actors, singing was top class, the songs were catchy. The audience loved it, adults and children were laughing, booing, whistling, clapping. Good show? Excellent!

Very strong performances from all the cast, congratulations! The children performing should be congratulated especially as coming across very professionally. The sets were magnificent and the plot very appealing to children. I have to say though that Anita Dobson's 'ice queen' was incredible and outstanding; I was mesmerised by her talents in this role and can't sing her praises too highly.

The most magical and spectacular show ever to appear at The Mayflower!
The show was wonderful, every movement every word was spot on. Anita Dobson, Roy Barraclough and Gary Wilmot were excellent in the show.
Chris Mould

Absolutely stunning. Anita Dobson was just stunning as the Ice Queen. She was amazing and captured the role exactly. Saw her in a new light! Never thought of her as a comedian but she was funny and evil at the same time. The whole production was brilliant. Thank you, much better than previous pantomimes we have visited at The Mayflower in the last couple of years.
Alison Gough
Portsmouth
What a fabulous performance, true Christmas spirit, no vulgarity as in some previous pantos total family enjoyment. I take my hat off to the young dancers, such energy and always a smile on their faces. They made it all look so easy. Congratulations to all involved, a wonderful performance.

Seven adults were sent back to their childhood. The Santa Claus was brilliant, Anita Dobson was great she put her heart and soul into her performance. I wanted to take Santa home with me. The costumes were wonderful. We all came away thinking Christmas has now just begun. Well done to all the cast as they were all good in different ways. Loved it.
Julie Otterden

Excellent! Took 3 children, 11, 5 and 2 1/2. All 3 were mesmerized by entire performance and youngest cried when we had to go home! Thought cast were great, Santa extremely believable and ice queen was excellent! Loved the snow at end of both acts, a really magical touch! All in all a great show to put you in a Christmas mood!

The show was brilliant I liked the way the bubbles came out like snow nice change from a panto.

My God, what appalling, amateurish drivel. Bring back Jim Davidson and Blobby. (The orchestra, as ever, were good, though).

Excellent show, Roy Barraclough looked like the real Santa. I thought the reindeers were funny. Whenever I see penguins I think of me doing the Snow Queen with the Nuffield theatre. Thanks for the best show ever.
Matthew Rawlins
Having flown from Aberdeen to see my niece taking part, I can truly say the show captures all that we believe Christmas to be and envokes the child within us all. Roy is a superb Santa and a truly super supporting cast. We came away tapping and singing. Congratulations to all involved.

Absolutely fantastic! Can't praise Anita Dobson enough! The best "baddy" ever! So funny, my 6 year old son has got her of to a tee with his impression of what she was going to do to the little girl when she caught her! Full applause to the rest of cast/crew as well, Gary Wilmot was also very funny in his role as Joe!

Every year we come and see the pantomime with friends from Devon - 9 of us in all. Each year is usually a wonderful show, this year I must say was a treat being a change from the traditional panto. The whole production was amazing, the cast, the story, sets and ideas. But I must say we were all astounded by Anita Dobson's outstanding performance. If it had been recorded I think she would have won an Oscar! Well done to Anita and all at The Mayflower!

A truly amazing show - a must see show which will appeal from tiny tots right through to young at heart senior citizens. Anita Dobson's performance as the Ice Queen was totally outstanding, she was so funny and so much energy, her singing strong and powerful, very well done to her.
The design sets were brilliant especially Santa's sleigh. This production is definitely not to be missed. Thank you to everyone, cast, crew and The Mayflower.

I thought it was brilliant! A nice break from the pantomime but looking forward to what's in store next year. The snow was a lovely touch! Very unexpected! I thought the Ice Queen's performance was a bit over the top but still very enjoyable! Congratulations to all involved!

I thought the show was really good. Unfortunately I didn't think it was as good as your old QDOS pantomimes but it was still great. Anita and Gary were really good and the scenery was amazing. Roy was great as Santa and I got his signature at the end. Great shows every year at The Mayflower. Thanks a lot. I would really go again.

I and my family have been going to the Mayflower for many years, I am a Premium card holder, we normally sit in the front rows.
For the first time on this date my father was in a wheelchair and we sat in row z (4 persons in total). No problems with the wheelchair access and caring help from the staff. However the show was completely ruined for us by the high proportion of infants in the audiance who just ran riot, their noise also stopping us from hearing the performance. Also the Mayflower in their wisdom had on sale flashing wands which quite naturally the many children used throughout the show and these wands being wafted infront of our eyes prevented us from seeing the show in comfort, infact they caused my mother great distress as she has cataracts.
This was a lookeed forward show on my parents 66th anniversary but shame to say it was a misery. My request is that for future shows the minum age for children be set at 4years instead of the current 2 years and that the flashing wands no longer be sold but perhaps badges instead.
We are not kill joys, the last 2 shows that my husband and I have attended Annie and Scrooge had hundreds of school children in the audiance but their enthusiasm added to the quality of the performance and they were no problem at all.

Response from The Mayflower: Our apologies to Mrs Baines. Afternoon performances do attract more young children and we try to strike a balance between stopping disturbance and allowing them to enjoy themselves. We don't always get it right but if anyone lets our staff know that they are being distracted by the behaviour of particular individuals, we will take whatever action is needed.
In selling the wands, we expect children to light them and hold them up occasionally but not to disturb others with them. We realised soon after Santa Claus opened that a minority of children were waving their wands in a distracting way and we have now put signs up asking parents not to let their children do this. Additionally our staff are intervening if they notice any excessive waving.
We would like to congratulate the cast and crew of Santa Claus the Musical on an excellent performance. We have been to several traditional pantos at the Mayflower, but this one beat them all hands down. We would also like to congratulate Roy Barraclough on his New Years Honour.

We all agreed that the performace was outstanding. We've been coming to The Mayflower for a few years and everyone was very entertaining, but this one was different because the staging made you being pulled in to the action which made it different and we all said how good all the main performers were. And also the chorus were very well constructed and very well designed costumes well done to you all at Santa Claus.

This was a real feel good happy show. All our family enjoyed it from 12 - 73 years old. The cast were brilliant. Gary Wilmot - a joy, Anita Dobson - amazing and Roy Barraclough - the ultimate Santa Claus. Congratulations! Superb.

The show was absolutely brilliant, and I am glad we, as a family went. My 14 yr old son didn't initially want to go, but he too found Gary Wilmot very funny... and they both enjoyed the snow... it made our Christmas.. thank you very much.

A truly memorable show best I have seen in years. I have always enjoyed pantomime but this outstrips it in every way. Congratulations on leaving out the smutty adult humour that seems to fill many modern day pantos. A sparkling performance by everybody even little penguin was a star!

This musical is such all round entertainment, funny, musical, great performances from the main cast to all the elves in Santa's workshop. It was a pleasure to watch and if you don't believe in Santa, meet this one... he is for real!

To tell you the truth, back in June or July when we first bought the tickets, I had not really benn looking forward to seeing the show. For the past ten years I have been seeing the pantomimes at the Mayflower and have really enjoyed each one. I would like to congratulate everybody envolved in the production as from the moment the show began I knew it was going to be excellent. We sat at the front and centre of the dress circle and felt that we had a great view. We were mesmorised when the orchestra pit was lifted to stage level. Well done everyone involved - I hope the show comes back in years to come as I would love to see it again. Anita Dobson and Gary Wilmot were amazing!! Keep up the good work.

This was a very brave decision for the Mayflower not to have another pantomime like many other theatres in the country: especially as they have such a high reputation for them. This production, however is a success, due to the star casting and novelty that it provides.
Gary Wilmot plays Joe, the head toymaker at the North Pole. The part, having being written for Gary, matches him perfectly. His many years experience in musical theatre pay off as displays a lot of talent. He is good at adding little touches, such as the love between his character and Mrs Johnston. Another scene in which Gary is good is when he is talking to the reindeers, very funny. Gary has such an optimistic personality that you find sitting in the audience it effects you too. Gary needs to be further congratulated because he actually wrote 2 of the biggest songs in the musical: Pickin' and Packin' and Put a Smile on a Child's face.
Anita Dobson as the robotic Snow Queen is outstanding. She becomes the snow queen and although not scary at all in places remains threatening. It is obvious that she has considered how to play the character with precise detail; with many times her acting ability shining through. There are also moments when she gives so much to her performance that she is left short of breath! She is excellent when flying through the air in her pod and all the humorous relationship with Aggro (Christopher Ryan). Anita should win an award for her portrayal in this production.
Roy Barraclough transforms himself into, for the first time on stage, a believable Santa. It is almost hard to believe that this is Roy's first appearance at the Mayflower. It is very amusing when Santa is with Ms Drift (Hilary O'Neil).
Hilary O'Neil as the moaning stressed secretary at the North Pole is oustanding too. Her voice is incredibly strong having a warm and pleasant tone. (Must say she was amazing in Acorn Antiques The Musical too!) She was very amusing as Ms Drift and certainly brought smiles to peoples faces when she walked onto the stage; especially funny when she had been frozen by ice!
Finally the character of Aggro (Christopher Ryan) completes (and compliments) the comedy duo between him and Anita. Funniest moment is when he is dressed in disguise as a snowman in the North Pole toy factory.
The special effects in this show range from snow falling onto the audience in the stalls to Santas sleigh taking off. There are dancing polar bears, walking penguins and all the reindeer (of course!). The sets were unfortunatly rather average and just one backdrop in places which was a little disappointing. Recommended to anybody who wants a good night out or just loves Christmas.

What a brilliant production, all the cast were superb. The children playing the elves were great. As a group organiser I have been to pantos at the Mayflower for several years. After a couple of years of Jim Davidson's repetitive self worship I thought the days of the Christmas shows were numbered, but this production proves otherwise. Well done to the Mayflower for bringing us this show. So good I took my family for a second time on the last night. More like this for next year please, but no light sticks on sale for the audience to wave.

My friend Tink and I are both growing up fast in lots of ways but no one can be too old for this production - it was superb! If there's anything that heaves Christmas atmosphere, this was it! We loved every minute of it; it was so adorable and 'feel-good'. I'd love to see it again - I know we were both left in tears!
Alice
Spectacular, superb performance by Anita Dobson in particular - but entertaining and top quality from all. I hope it was as rewarding for the cast as it was for the audience as they put in a million percent and it showed. Really set the feelgood factor into Christmas Eve. Outstanding.
