Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci
Thu 24 & Sat 26 March 2005
7.15pm Sung in Italian with English surtitles Explore Opera - 26 March 2005 at 2pm
This Italian double-bill has special significance for WNO and its audiences – it was the first evening of opera the company ever performed in 1946. Both operas have gripping plots of infidelity, passion and revenge on cheating lovers with and both with tragic endings. Cavalleria rusticana transports you to a picturesque Sicilian village and is packed with memorable tunes and Pagliacci concerns a band of travelling players whose show about simple, circus folk cruelly mirrors reality.

This is a traditional production.
Cavalleria rusticana is best pronounced: Cava-ler-ree-a rusty- car-na
Pagliacci is best pronounced: Pa-lee-atch-ee
BUT the double-bill is very often referred to as “Cav and Pag” which is much easier to say!
