Mykal Rand
Mykal is delighted to be joining the UK production of Starlight Express as Resident Director and in the role of Electra. This is familiar territory for Mykal having performed in Starlight at the Apollo Victoria Theatre and in the UK Tour, where he was also Skate coach and productions in Germany and Japan. Parts played include; Rusty, Poppa, Electra.
Other credits include:
Purlie, playing the role of Gitlow and Choreographer at the Bridewell Theatre, Grease, a production which he directed and choreographed in Cyprus, Passion, as choreographer at the Bridewell Theatre, Release The Beat, as choreographer at The Arcola Theatre, Oh! What A Night, playing the part of Stretch in the National Tour. Peter Pan and The Pirates of Penzance at the Savoy Theatre, choreographing a new production Golden Boy for the Greenwich Theatre, three productions in The Global Search for New Musicals during the Festival of Musical Theatre in Cardiff, The Boss in the Leicester Haymarket's production Hot Stuff, a Rhythm Boy and understudied and played the leading role of Mr Magix in My One and Only at the Piccadilly Theatre, Walking cover and playing Simba in The Lion King, Lyceum theatre, London, creating the role of Michael in Poison at the Tricycle Theatre, which he also choreographed.
Mykal has also been involved with the musical Rent since it arrived in the UK understudying & playing the role of Tom Collins on numerous occasions in the original West End production at the Shaftesbury Theatre. He also played Tom Collins at the Olympia theatre Dublin, and in the most recent production at the Prince of Wales theatre, which he also choreographed, at the Leicester Haymarket and in the UK Tour.
Television appearances include: The Concert for Channel 4, A Day In The Life - WDR Germany & Children In Need for the BBC.
Mykal can also be seen playing an apostle in the video of Jesus Christ Superstar, produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber's Really Useful Video Company.
Mykal would like to dedicate this performance to his Nan.
