Joanne Boag
Scottish born Soprano Joanne Boag trained at The National Opera Studio and the R.S.A.M.D. She graduated from the R.S.A.M.D with a B.Mus (Hons), a Masters in Performance with distinction and a Masters in Opera, also with distinction, under the tuition of Patricia Hay.
Joanne is an experienced oratorio soloist and recitalist performing throughout UK. Notable performances include Haydn’s Harmoniemesse under conductor Nicholas Kraemer, the Scottish premier of Liszt’s oratorio Christus, Soprano soloist in Haydn’s Nelson Mass in the Edinburgh Festival and Poulenc’s Gloria in St David’s Hall with the chorus and orchestra of Welsh National Opera. She has also appeared as a guest artiste with the RSNO in an Opera Gala in the Barony Hall (Glasgow), a recital tour of The Trossachs National Park for Scottish Opera, a recital with the pianist Michael Pollock in St David’s Hall, Cardiff and Handel's Messiah at the Usher Hall (Edinburgh).
Her operatic experience includes the roles of La Bergere (L’enfant et les Sortileges), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), Nannetta (Falstaff) and Melisande (Pelleas et Melisande) all with the Alexander Gibson Opera School. Joanne has also performed the roles of Alinda and Cupid (Giasone) and Drusilla (Poppea) for the Early Opera Company under Christian Curnyn.
During 2007 and 2008, Joanne was an Associate Artist with Welsh National Opera, where she performed the roles of Clorinda (La Cenrentola) under Carlo Rizzi, Nannetta (Falstaff), Sandman and Dew Fairy (Hansel and Gretel) and Giunone (Le Nozze de Teti e Peleo). Further roles for WNO have included Arbate (Mitridate) under the late Sir Charles Mackerras, Frasquita (Carmen) and Echo (Ariadne auf Naxos).
Recent and future engagements include the title role in Katya Kabanova for Scottish Opera on Tour, conerts for Raymond Gubbay, Adele (Fledermaus) and Despina (Cosi) for WNO.
