Work Experience Programme for Students

At the Mayflower we are committed to our education programme and we are pleased to offer four work experience placements per year to Year 10 students.

How to apply for a placement

To apply for a placement please write your letter to Cheriesse Wintle or email: cheriesse.wintle@mayflower.org.uk outlining why you would like to carry out your work experience at the Mayflower; what you hope to gain from the programme; which school you attend and the date your work experience is due to take place.

Selection

Our annual selection is made in November each year, all applicants will be advised of the outcome.

* PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE NOW MADE OUR SELECTIONS FOR 2012.

If you are selected, you will be invited for a brief interview before your placement begins, we will also give you a copy of your work schedule and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed.

About the Theatre

As you may be aware, The Mayflower Theatre is a “receiving house” and not a “producing house”. This means that all the shows we stage are touring shows and come here already created, complete with their own sets, costumes, wigs and make-up. Our backstage staff assist the touring crews with the sets and our dressers assist with the costumes.

Work experience programme

To experience how the Theatre is run from all aspects, students spend time in each department to see how they contribute to the running of The Mayflower as a business.

These departments include: Finance, Front of House, Marketing, Box Office, Sales & Development.

All of our work experience students are given plenty of opportunity to assist with an interesting variety of tasks around the theatre. Due to health & safety restrictions you are not permitted to work backstage during your placement, however, you will have a full guided tour of the backstage area, including the fly floor and the dressing rooms.
