Mayflower Theatre is proud to have launched its first summer youth dance project this year. Working with 38 auditioned young people in collaboration with award winning dance companies Rambert and ZooNation. Inspired by the British Arts show 8 (BAS8) the dancers created a culmination of contemporary and hip hop pieces, and performed in various locations in the city and at Mayflower Theatre. The project culminated in an outside site specific performance linked with the John Hansard Galleries alongside their ‘Lighten Up project’.
The project has been organised by Mayflower Theatre, with additional funding from BAS8 Fringe, & support from Arts at University of Southampton.
The young people performed to a variety of audiences over the project including 200 people at the Lighten Up site specific performance and approximately over 150 at the university performance spaces. Including huge support from audiences at Mayflower Theatre’s Open day this year.
