Everybody's Talking About Jamie is a work of art!
Modern day life is a struggle for most people, but it’s even more of a struggle for 16 year old wannabe drag queen, Jamie New.
Based on the true story of Jamie Campbell and his mum, Margaret, this coming-of-age musical tells of Jamie’s struggle at school – simply for wanting to wear a dress to the end of year prom.
Starring Layton Williams in the title role, this production is a joyful escape from everyday life for a short while, with guest stars Faye Tozer as Miss Hedge (Until Saturday 3rd August) and Bianca Del Rio as Hugo, the legendary drag queen Loco Chanel - an infamous drag queen with a dramatic backstory. (Bianca recently finished her guest role in the show).
Layton’s singing and dancing is infectiously fun and warming, bringing a real depth to the character with fun and emotion. No opportunity is missed with high energy dance moves, spectacular strutting and jokes that come naturally and land perfectly.
The show has a lot of heart, from the relationship between Jamie and his mum, to his best friend Pritti and even the way Jamie confronts his bullies, production touches on themes that aren’t far from any modern day teenager’s mind, as Jamie explores his own identity and relationships with friends and family.
Everybody’s Talking About Jamie touched the heart of each member of the audience with catchy songs “And You Don’t Even Know It”, “Work Of Art” and “Out Of The Darkness” – some of which you can’t help but want to dance along to!
Jamie brings northern charm to the West End, something not often seen. It’s a true modern day British story which delivers and brings a breath of fresh air to theatre.
Everybody's Talking About Jamie heads out on tour next year, with the cast yet to be announced.
