Inside Birmingham Royal Ballet's Dreams Rehearsals - Part 2
Students of all ages will take to the Mayflower Theatre main stage for a performance of Swan Lake Dreams on Sunday 2nd of Feb. In a fully staged production, danced on the set of Birmingham Royal Ballet's Swan Lake, these talented amateur dancers will share the stage with some of the Company's world-class dancers who take on the leading roles of Odette / Odile, Siegfried and Von Rothbart. One of our younger dancers shares what a few days in a ballet rehearsal is like:
Birmingham Royal Ballet, Swan Lake Dreams, has been a really good experience because we get to work with professionals and do something we love to do. In rehearsals I have made lots of new friends with people from a lot of different age groups as well as people I wouldn’t have met had there not been this opportunity.
Whilst rehearsing, all the teachers are so kind and supportive of our technique and they come to our need whenever we feel like we need help. Also during the rehearsals, usually on Wednesdays, we go for a warm up then we go through the show, one act at a time, cleaning up timing and polishing up choreography that we aren’t quite sure on. Then on our Sunday intensives we learn new sections of the dances and polish the rest of the dance that we might not have had time to do on the Wednesday.
This production is such a different experience than what we have at our dance schools because we need to learn to dance as a group and we need to learn to dance with different age groups. However at our dance schools, we have learnt to dance with all the same people which can be a lot easier; this has been another great experience.
