Meet the Mayflower Theatre Team Part 3

Want to get to know our staff? We will be highlighting three of our amazing staff in each blogpost over the coming weeks to find out the best things about working at Mayflower Theatre and what goes on behind the scenes.

  1. Introduce yourself and your job title: My name is James and I am a Box Office Assistant at Mayflower Theatre!
  2. Tell us about your job in 10 words: I book customers onto a variety of shows and events.
  3. How long have you worked at Mayflower Theatre? I have been at Mayflower Theatre a little over a year and a half so far (best year and a half so far!)
  4. Best part about working at Mayflower Theatre? The best part of working at Mayflower Theatre (other than seeing the shows of course) is definitely the people I work with. Everyone is a joyous theatre lover and every day is a fun filled day with a lot of laughter shared whether it’s with my box office teammates or the engage and marketing team!
  5. Favourite show you’ve seen at Mayflower Theatre and why? My favourite show I’ve seen at Mayflower Theatre has definitely been Kinky Boots. It’s such an uplifting show with a brilliant soundtrack and has a finale that makes you want to get up and dance! What more could you ask for?
  6. Best lockdown tip? My best lockdown tip is KEEP BUSY. Doesn’t matter what you do whether it’s doing some gardening, working from home or writing a future award winning musical that could be performed on our beautiful stage! Keeping busy will make the days fly by and will keep you from boredom in your own home.
  7. Are you more an Actor, Singer, Dancer, Triple Threat, Musician, Techie, or none of the above? I used to be a budding actor but nowadays I focus more on writing. Creating stories and ideas that could one day be created on stage or screen is my passion. I mean, where would the actors be without the writers to create their characters?
  8. Favourite place in Southampton, other than Mayflower Theatre? Other than Mayflower Theatre, I would say the best place in Southampton is the O2 Guildhall as they always have great musicians and comedians, perfect for a night out!
  9. Best Mayflower engage project you’ve been involved in? The best Mayflower Engage project I’ve worked on was definitely 2019’s Summer Youth Project Peter Pan. I had so much fun working with all the talented young performers during rehearsals and to see the finished project after 2 weeks of rehearsing was truly remarkable. An experience I’ll never forget!
  10. If you could be in any show, which show would you be in? If I could be in any show it would be, without a doubt, Waitress. Waitress is my all-time favourite show and I never get fed up of seeing it. As an audience member they are ‘never ever getting rid of me’ (see what I did there). It is my go to soundtrack and the show will go down as one of, if not, the best show I have ever seen!

  1. Introduce yourself and your job title: I’m Anna, the Dance Marketing Officer.
  2. Tell us about your job in 10 words: Getting people as excited about dance as I am!
  3. How long have you worked at Mayflower Theatre? Since July 2019.
  4. Best part about working at Mayflower Theatre? I love being able to create relationships with our local dance community as well as being able to bring people into the Theatre who might not have experienced dance before!
  5. Favourite show you’ve seen at Mayflower Theatre and why? I loved Some Like It Hip Hop by ZooNation – I’d never seen a story told in such a uniquely powerful way before! The way Kate Prince, the choreographer, combined narration with hip hop was incredible, and if you get the chance to see it, I strongly recommend going.
  6. Best lockdown tip? Regular dance breaks – put on your favourite song and have a bop. Also, ration your binge-watching so you don’t run out of shows?
  7. Are you more an Actor, Singer, Dancer, Triple Threat, Musician, Techie, or none of the above? This will come as no surprise to anyone, but a dancer.
  8. Favourite place in Southampton, other than Mayflower Theatre? Riverside Park.
  9. Best Mayflower engage project you’ve been involved in? Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Dreams Project, where local dancers got to perform Swan Lake with BRB dancers on the Mayflower stage.
  10. If you could be in any show, which show would you be in? I’d be Roxie in Chicago.

  1. Introduce yourself and your job title: Alex,  Assistant House Manager.
  2. Tell us about your job in 10 words: Responsibility for the building and everyone in it during performances.
  3. How long have you worked at Mayflower Theatre? 13 years, 5 months!
  4. Best part about working at Mayflower Theatre? The scale of it all – looking after a place and operation of our size keeps you on your toes!
  5. Favourite show you’ve seen at Mayflower Theatre and why? Mary Poppins – Even as someone who works here I couldn’t work out how they did some of the things that they did.
  6. Best lockdown tip? As someone who doesn’t have a garden, make good use of the exercise ruling every day – a bit of fresh air every day is great for someone who would otherwise be indoors 24/7.
  7. Are you more an Actor, Singer, Dancer, Triple Threat, Musician, Techie, or none of the above? Actor/Techie. An odd combination but I did a bit of the former when I was at college and I also love knowing how things work.
  8. Favourite place in Southampton, other than Mayflower Theatre? Belgium & Blues. A bar & brasserie on Above Bar with a great selection of gins, beers and food. I could happily while away a Sunday afternoon there!
  9. Best Mayflower engage project you’ve been involved in? The Les Miserables project at King Edward VI School in 2018.
  10. If you could be in any show, which show would you be in? Les Mis, although I’m sure my voice isn’t up for the job!
