We are looking for young people who enjoy a variety of art forms to take part in an exciting project with
Welsh National Opera – Opera Engage.

This has been made possible due to the partnership between Welsh National Opera, Mayflower Theatre,
Theatre Royal Winchester and the University of Winchester. Previous Opera Engage projects at
Mayflower Theatre (2015-2018) have included Hansel and Gretel, In Parenthesis, Sweeney Todd, La bohéme and Tosca.

Opera Engage is an amazing opportunity for 10-18 year olds to develop new skills combining composing, singing, acting, and designing.
Guided by a professional creative team from Welsh National Opera, participants will devise and create an original piece of theatre inspired
by Rhondda Rips It Up! WNO’s brand-new, rip-roaring, uproarious musical comedy. This thigh-slapping romp through the world of suffrage
and song is told through the lens of music-hall. Starring Lesley Garrett and Madeleine Shaw, Rhondda Rips It Up! will be heading to
Theatre Royal on Tuesday 20 November.

Opera Engage will run Saturday 17 – Monday 19 November 2018.
Participants will work with the creative team to devise a Rhondda Rips it Up! inspired showcase, which will be performed in the evening of
Monday 19 November at Theatre Royal Winchester to family and friends.

The culmination of the project will be an opportunity for all participants to see Welsh National Opera’s Rhondda Rips It Up! on
Tuesday 20 November 2018 at Theatre Royal Winchester.

All participants will be given complimentary tickets to see WNO's Cenerentola at Mayflower Theatre on Thursday 22 November 2018.
Family are also welcome to attend at an additional cost of £5 (maximum 2 per participant). To take up your young person's complimentary
offer and to reserve additional tickets, please contact our Box Office on 02380 711 811.

Rossini’s delightful retelling of Cinderella is a candy-coloured world of fairy tale, full of wit, larger than life characters and vibrant costumes

Earl Carpenter has more than 20 years’ experience in the musical theatre industry and has played principal and title roles in a number of shows
including the 25th anniversary touring production of The Phantom Of The Opera, We Will Rock You, Evita and the original 25th anniversary

Michael Ockwell, Mayflower Theatre chief executive said: ‘Earl is one of the most experienced performers who started out his career in local
amateur productions in Bournemouth and Southampton, and is the perfect inspiration for all the young people who are members of the youth
theatre. It would be amazing to think that some of these young people will be as successful in their careers as Earl and return one day to
lead a company in a show on Mayflower Theatre’s stage.’

Earl said: ‘...Having this platform to impart what I’ve learnt about the musical theatre industry over the last 20 plus years and with
Mayflower Theatre supporting youth theatre as it does, this is a great opportunity and I look forward to achieving what this honour dictates.’
