Groove On Down The Road

We are delighted to partner with UK leading hip-hop dance company ZooNation to present their critically-acclaimed production Groove on Down the Road as 2018’s Summer Youth Dance Project. The company behind Into the Hoods, Some Like It Hip Hop and The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party give their unique twist to the classic story of The Wizard of Oz.

The audience join Dorothy, complete with ruby sneakers, and friends in this hip-hop dance production as they follow the yellow brick road in a quest to find happiness and family.

Mayflower Production's Summer Youth Project for 2018 is the epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit, Les Misérables School Edition.

This year we are offering dance within our Summer Youth Project in a different way. This will give local young people with a passion for dance an opportunity to take part in creating a new piece of dance as well as some elements of our Summer Youth Project of Les Misérables School Edition.

Revolution will give local young dancers the opportunity to work and devise with choreographer Rebecca Leonard on a new short piece - Revolution - inspired by the themes of Les Misérables and presented as a double bill with Les Misérables School Edition at four performances from August 10-12. In addition to this the members of the Revolution dance company will also join the chorus for some of the full company numbers in the Les Misérables School Edition Summer Youth Project performances.

Les Misérables School Edition project dates: 12 days between 28 July - 12 August 2018

Revolution project dates: 10 days between 29 July and 12 August 2018

Summer Youth Dance Project 2017 - THE Guys and THE Dolls

Following the success of last year’s collaborative project with Rambert & ZooNation, this year we were extremely lucky to work with local acclaimed company ZoieLogic Dance Theatre and internationally renowned Birmingham Royal Ballet.

This year’s project took inspiration from Guys & Dolls, using the original score and other music of the period, to create an innovative and exciting dance piece, which was performed on our stage on Sunday 13th August 2017. ZoieLogic worked with our young male dancers, exploring the “Guys” influence of the project, whilst Birmingham Royal Ballet delivered the “Dolls” element with our young female dancers, before combining both styles and techniques to create one unique live dance performance.
