Earl Carpenter, Patron of Mayflower Musical Youth Theatre

Earl Carpenter has more than 20 years’ experience in the musical theatre industry and has played principal and title roles in a number of shows
including the 25th anniversary touring production of The Phantom Of The Opera, We Will Rock You, Evita and the original 25th anniversary
touring production of Les Misérables.

Michael Ockwell, Mayflower Theatre chief executive said: ‘Earl is one of the most experienced performers who started out his career in local
amateur productions in Bournemouth and Southampton, and is the perfect inspiration for all the young people who are members of the youth
theatre. It would be amazing to think that some of these young people will be as successful in their careers as Earl and return one day to
lead a company in a show on Mayflower Theatre’s stage.’

Earl said: ‘...Having this platform to impart what I’ve learnt about the musical theatre industry over the last 20 plus years and with
Mayflower Theatre supporting youth theatre as it does, this is a great opportunity and I look forward to achieving what this honour dictates.’

Mayflower Musical Youth Theatre consist of three groups:

Limelights: School years 6-7 | Tuesdays 6.00pm-7.45pm
Footlights: School years 8-9 | Tuesdays 7.45pm-9.30pm
Spotlights: School and college years 10-13 | Mondays 6.00pm-7.45pm

Each of these groups performs in the community at least once in the year and shows back a small selection of work for parents/guardians once a term.

Each group focuses on developing acting, singing and dance skills. We also give opportunities throughout the year linked to the visiting companies that form Mayflower Theatre’s programme. This coming year we will link the work in sessions with British Legion’s Remembrance Service, Shrek, Wessex Heartbeat Variety Show, Jersey Boys, Horrible Histories, Pepperland, Great Gatsby, Bodyguard and Matilda.

We meet at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College on Hill Lane.

In addition to these exciting opportunities, the members of Mayflower Musical Youth Theatre will get a chance to audition to be a part of our annual production. The production will take place during May half term and will rehearse on Thursday evenings, separately from the regular sessions. This means that if you are in the production you also come to the regular sessions so that you don’t miss any opportunities! Auditions to get into the production will be held towards the end of the autumn term. This year we will be presenting Little Shop of Horrors at Solent University on Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June.
