Event details

Writers in Conversation, part reading, part Q&A, is a relaxed and engaging event featuring writers reading their work and talking about their writing lifestyle.

Author Rebecca Smith joins award-winning writer and journalist Carole Burns to discuss her most recent work and first crime novel, Conversations With An Octopus (Legend Press, 2024).

Rebecca Smith has authored six novels, two books about Jane Austen, and the text of a picture book. Rebecca teaches Creative Writing at The University of Southampton. She lives in Southampton.

Conversations With An Octopus is a quirky crime novel set in Devon. When the body of a lecherous landlord washes up on Ottersea beach, it’s up to Detectives Jim Paddon and Grace Brown to solve the mystery. Rebecca Smith’s latest novel takes inspiration from Jane Austen’s unfinished seaside novel, Sanditon. It’s a tale of women’s anger, sea creatures, friendship, and ice cream.
