To mark their royal return and another sold-out run, Mayflower Theatre and the cast of SIX visited Tudor House in Southampton to see the Bronze Cannon which is in situ in the house’s garden.
SIX is an international smash-hit musical where the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power.
To welcome these Tudor Queens to Southampton, we took them to visit Southampton’s oldest museum, Tudor House.
Nicole Louise Lewis (Catherine of Aragon), Izi Maxwell (Anne Boleyn), Erin Caldwell (Jane Seymour), Ellie Jane Grant (Anna of Cleves), Lou Henry (Katherine Howard) and Aoife Haakenson (Catherine Parr), enjoyed the sunshine on the walls where a cannon overlooks the garden that is a re-creation of a traditional garden full of period plants.
The bronze cannon which was made for Henry VIII in 1542 by the Italian, Arcanus of Cesna. Allegedly the cannon was then gifted to the city of Southampton, for the defence of the town, although rumours also suggest that the cannon may once have been upon the Mary Rose.
SIX used the opportunity to announce they will be returning to Mayflower Theatre in December 2025.
