Meet Sian Davies, who has taken part in multiple Mayflower Youth Productions. We spoke to Sian to hear about her journey and what keeps her coming back for more.
What would you say is the best thing about being involved with Mayflower Youth Productions?
“Now that I’m an adult, going off to drama school – a huge part of that is thanks to Mayflower because I have been able to grow my confidence, make friends, and been able to make connections. It has been a truly wonderful experience which has made me grow as a person and a performer.”
Has Mayflower inspired you to want to continue musical theatre as a career in the future?
“Absolutely! Being in the theatre environment during technical weeks where you can meet all of the crew and see how they are putting together the lighting and sound, it’s such a huge learning curve. Everyone’s role within theatre is just as important as the performance on stage. Everyone is just so inspirational!”

What would you say to those who are thinking about taking part in any of our youth productions or participation workshops?
“Go for it. Be yourself, be confident even if you’re not confident, put on a brave face and give it your best shot!”
How does it feel to perform in front of sell out audiences?
“Unreal. Honestly, when you come out and the director tells you the show is sold out, there are no words to describe it. To be able to sell out audiences at a youth performance is a fantastic feeling!”
You’ve been cast as the lead role of Jane Austen in The Last Rose of Summer, how was the audition process and what are you looking forward to?
“First, we workshopped a couple of the songs. Then, in the recalls, we re-did a lot of the audition material, we read for some scenes and sang some more, but, most importantly, we all just had a wonderful time. I am so grateful for this opportunity and wonderful experience to be able to play Jane Austen in this new piece. I can’t wait to help celebrate Jane Austen 250 in the city!”
