Event details
Hongkongers have journeyed through night and dawn and walk towards morning.
Night
In 2019, they experienced a pro-democracy movement. Many were imprisoned, and freedoms suppressed. The painting “Thousand Hands Man” commemorates the movement.
Dawn
After 2019, around 150,000 Hongkongers migrated to the UK. “Long-Armed People” reflects on transnational repression. The diaspora strives to preserve culture and integrate—captured in “Hong Kong Foodie”.
Morning
“Rooting Everywhere” celebrates the next generation’s hope and unity.
City Life Church Southampton invites Lumli Lumlong, a London-based Hong Kong artist couple. They fled to the UK in 2021 due to political persecution.
Their work has been exhibited internationally, including at the European and UK Parliaments, and was selected for the London Art Biennale 2025. Lumlong paints the left side by day; Lumli, the right by night.
As The Times wrote:
“There are few more passionate chroniclers of the modern Hong Kong identity than Lumli and Lumlong”.
