Matthew Bourne’s award-winning The Car Man comes to Southampton for the first time! Loosely based on Bizet’s ever-popular opera Carmen, The Car Man has one of the most thrilling and instantly recognisable scores in New Adventures’ repertoire.
In a greasy 1950’s garage-diner in the American Mid-West, the dreams and passions of a small town are shattered by the arrival of a handsome and enigmatic stranger. Fuelled by heat and desire, the inhabitants are driven into an unstoppable spiral of greed, lust, betrayal and revenge.
Matthew Bourne’s vivid storytelling combines with one of the most passionately dramatic scores ever written. With music by Terry Davies, and featuring Rodion Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite, it creates a dance thriller like no other.
The Car Man will ignite your senses and leave you breathless.

The Car Man Touch Tour

To accompany the audio described performance of The Car Man, we are running a Touch Tour before the show at Mayflower Theatre. The Touch Tour will take place before the matinee performance.
A Touch Tour allows visually impaired patrons, and those supporting them, the opportunity to familiarise themselves with elements of the set, props and costumes before attending the show.
Please arrive 5-10 minutes before the Touch Tour begins.
